Switzerland: Swiss passport and identity card in Australia

  • Appointment Required
  • Apply by post Not accepted
  • Checked 24 October 2026

Swiss citizens living in Australia apply for a biometric passport or identity card by first submitting an online request and then attending in person to give a photo, fingerprints and signature. Biometric data is not retained, so it must be given again at each new application.

Where to apply in Australia

Consulate General of Switzerland in Sydney (Bondi Junction, NSW), which provides consular services to Swiss and Liechtenstein citizens for all of Australia and its external territories; the Embassy in Canberra represents Swiss interests. Contact for civil status and document matters: sydney@eda.admin.ch.

Biometrics are recorded at the Consulate General in Sydney or at a mobile biometric station that visits the main city of each state; the Consulate emails the community about sessions about 2-3 months ahead. Planned sessions: Brisbane 2027 and Melbourne 2028, both still to be confirmed. Applicants may name another Swiss representation or a cantonal passport office as the place to attend.

Contact details for every office are on the page of the embassy and consulates of Switzerland.

How to apply

Submit the online application form, one request per person | Put preferred dates for the biometric appointment in the Remarks field | Receive an online acknowledgement; after checking, the appointment is usually confirmed within about a week together with the list of documents to bring and the fees | Attend in person to record the biometric data
