How we check the data

Where every address, district and procedure on this portal comes from, and how we keep it current.

Consular information is only useful if it is right. This page explains exactly where our data comes from and what each label on the portal means.

Where the offices come from

The list of embassies, high commissions, consulates and honorary consuls comes from the Diplomatic List and Consular List published by the Protocol Branch of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. These lists give each office's address, telephone numbers, opening hours and, for consulates, the states and territories they serve.

When a country's own website shows newer details than the official list, we note the difference on the page instead of silently overwriting either source.

Where the procedures come from

Procedures such as passport renewals, visas, civil registration or powers of attorney come only from official sources: the embassy or consulate website, the country's foreign ministry, or the outsourced application centre that the embassy itself links to.

We never copy procedures from other directories, travel blogs or visa agencies. If a country does not publish a procedure, we do not invent one.

What the labels mean

Label Meaning
Verified The key details were read on a current official page on the date shown.
Check with the office The official page exists but some details are missing, undated or older than twelve months. Confirm fees and requirements before you apply.
Last checked The date we last compared the page with its official sources.

Fees and exchange rates

Many consulates set their fees in their own currency and convert them to Australian dollars every month. We show fees as the official source publishes them, with the date of that fee table, and we recommend confirming the amount with the office before paying.

Corrections

Anyone can report an error through our contact page. We check the report against the official source, correct the page if needed and update its date. We do not change information based on unverified reports alone.

Our limits

Consular rules can change without notice, and offices sometimes close or move temporarily. Nothing on this portal replaces the instructions of the office that will handle your case. Read our disclaimer for details.
