The embassy handles applications on Albanian citizenship including acquisition, reacquisition and renunciation by people in Australia. Naturalisation itself requires five years' lawful residence in Albania.
Where to apply in Australia
Embassy of Albania, Canberra (13 Culgoa Circuit, O'Malley ACT). The honorary consulate in Brisbane is listed in DFAT data but no consular services are published for it.
Requests must first be made through the online consular application; fees are paid in advance by bank transfer to the embassy account. Consular hours Mon-Fri 9:00-13:00.
Contact details for every office are on the page of the embassy and consulates of Albania.
How to apply
Apply online | submit the supporting documents, apostilled where required | pay in advance.
Documents you need
- Varies; renunciation needs documents such as a promise of other citizenship, police and court clearances, apostilled certificates
Fees and processing time
- Official fee: EUR 30 per action
Good to know
Fees are in EUR on the embassy services page (undated). Some Australian notarial costs are set by DFAT in local currency. The renunciation text on the page is internally inconsistent (refers to German and Australian citizenship); confirm with the embassy.
