Belgians in the population register can obtain an electronic identity card (adults and children over 12) or a Kids-ID (children under 12) through the embassy. Since 21 June 2021 a personal appointment is compulsory, including for children aged 6 and over, because two fingerprints are taken.
Where to apply in Australia
Royal Belgian Embassy, Yarralumla (Canberra, ACT), which serves the whole of Australia. The honorary consulates (Sydney NSW, Brisbane QLD, Adelaide SA, Darwin NT) do not carry out these procedures.
Also offered at the embassy's visiting biometric missions (children from age 6); activation or unblocking of an eID with the PUK code is free there.

Good to know
EUR amounts come from the eID page, which shows no date; Fees from the FPS Foreign Affairs central schedule 'Fees for consular services' (file dated 2026-06, changes effective 1 Jul-1 Sep 2026); the Australian embassy's own fee page (consular-fees) lists no amounts, says fees are paid in AUD at the posted rate, and the embassy fee PDF effective 1 Oct 2026 could not be located. Note: the embassy eID page still states EUR 20 / EUR 10 (the pre-1 Sep 2026 amounts).
