Check with the office. The official pages for this service leave out some details, or are older than a year. Use this page as a starting point and confirm fees and documents before you apply.

Visitors from visa-required countries who want to stay in Luxembourg up to 90 days in any 180 days apply for a type C Schengen visa. From Australia the Luxembourg Foreign Ministry sends applicants to the Belgian Embassy in Canberra.

Where to apply in Australia

Luxembourg has no resident embassy in Australia (accredited from the Netherlands Embassy in Canberra, per the Luxembourg Foreign Ministry). The Belgian Embassy in Canberra is the competent office for consular affairs and for Luxembourg visa applications; Honorary Consuls in Sydney (ACT, NSW, NT, QLD, SA, WA) and Melbourne (VIC, TAS) are listed, and the ministry lists visa handling as the only service. Belgian visa applications are lodged at the VFS Global centres in Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth (short-stay in person).

Honorary Consuls are listed but the ministry describes only visa handling; applications go to the Belgian Embassy.

Contact details for every office are on the page of the embassy and consulates of Luxembourg.

How to apply

Complete the electronic form (VisaOnWeb) and print and sign it | book an appointment on VFS Global Australia | attend in person for documents and biometrics | the Embassy no longer accepts postal visa applications except in specific cases

Applications are handled through VFS Global (Belgium visa application centres), https://visa.vfsglobal.com/aus/en/bel/.

Documents you need

Fees and processing time

The official pages do not publish a fee for this service. Ask the office before you apply.

Processing time: Usually about 15 calendar days, up to 45 if more documents are needed.

Good to know

Ministry pages carry no date for this text apart from a 1 October 2026 rule change for long stays. Belgium's published visa-competence table (January 2024) lists Paris, not Canberra, as Belgium's post for Luxembourg visas, so check with the Belgian Embassy before relying on this. Australian citizens may be visa-exempt for short stays under EU rules; the pages read do not state this.
