Check with the office. The official pages for this service leave out some details, or are older than a year. Use this page as a starting point and confirm fees and documents before you apply.
Icelanders living abroad renew or replace their passport through an Icelandic embassy or consulate; the passport is valid ten years (five for under 18).
Where to apply in Australia
No Icelandic embassy is resident in Australia (the Embassy in New Delhi covers India, Nepal and Sri Lanka and the Embassy in Tokyo does not list Australia, and the official jurisdiction pages for Tokyo, New Delhi and Beijing do not list Australia, so the accredited mission could not be confirmed). Honorary consulates exist in New South Wales (Sydney area) and Victoria (Melbourne area), per the Australian government (DFAT) listing; Icelandic official pages read do not say which services they perform.
Contact details for every office are on the page of the embassy and consulates of Iceland.
How to apply
Contact the Icelandic embassy or consulate responsible for you (list on the ministry site) | Attend with the previous passport or, if lost, photo ID, and pay the fee
Documents you need
- Previous passport, or photo ID such as a driver's licence if lost
- Passport fee
- With no official ID: attend with two witnesses holding official ID and fill in an individual verification form
Fees and processing time
The official pages do not publish a fee for this service. Ask the office before you apply.
Good to know
The Registers Iceland page (no date shown) does not give fees, fingerprint or timing details, and does not say whether the honorary consulates in Australia can take applications; confirm with the Ministry's consular line before relying on a local office.
