India: Registration of birth abroad in Australia

Indian citizen parents register the birth of a child born in Australia with the Indian mission and obtain a certificate of registration of birth. Perth and Melbourne also list the issue of a birth certificate.

Where to apply in Australia

Lodged at the Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC, run by VFS Global) for the applicant's state: Canberra (ACT), Sydney (NSW), Adelaide (SA), Melbourne (VIC and TAS), Brisbane (QLD), Perth (WA and NT). Decided by the High Commission in Canberra (ACT plus Cooma, Merimbula and Bega) or the Consulate-General covering the applicant (Sydney: NSW and SA; Melbourne: VIC and TAS; Brisbane: QLD; Perth: WA and NT).

Perth (WA and NT): since 15 Sept 2026 this service must first be filed on the MEA e-SEWA portal (indianconsularservices.mea.gov.in); after scrutiny of about 10 working days the file is lodged with VFS Perth by appointment or courier.
