Iraqi birth certificate (birth registration) – Iraq in Australia

Iraqi fathers register the birth of a child born abroad and receive an Iraqi birth certificate issued by the consular section. Registration after two months incurs a late fee.

How to apply

The father attends the consular section with documents after booking | the section confirms nationality, registers the birth and issues the certificate (copies are forwarded to the Ministry of Health in Baghdad) | Sydney: download the birth statement form, one parent attends or posts the documents by registered mail with a return envelope

Documents you need

Original Australian birth certificate authenticated by DFAT
Copies of both parents' Iraqi civil status IDs and passports
Marriage contract if marriage is not on the IDs (authenticated by issuing country's foreign ministry, its mission in Australia and DFAT)

Good to know

Embassy site pages show no update date; some cited circulars date from 2009-2013, so fees may be outdated. Proof of residence in the embassy's area is required for booking. Standard issuance fee not published. Application form is downloadable from the embassy site.
