English-language certificates for Japanese nationals covering birth, marriage, divorce and matters recorded in the family register (koseki), for use with foreign authorities. Applications are at the counter or online, and online ones are open to Japanese nationals only.

How to apply
At the counter by appointment | or online via ORR with paper certificate collected at the counter or an e-certificate downloaded (requires an electronic koseki pass valid 3 months)
Documents you need
- Valid passport
- Application form
- Koseki transcript issued within 3 months (marriage) or 6 months (birth, divorce, koseki matters)
- Spouse's passport for marriage
- Archived koseki transcript for some divorces and for former nationals
- Parent's passport for a minor
Fees and processing time
- Official fee: amounts in image fee table (not readable)
Processing time: 5 business days at the counter; 3-5 business days online.
Good to know
The consulate does not provide full translations of koseki documents.
