Dutch nationals living in Australia apply for a new or renewed passport or identity card in person, with parental permission rules for minors. The site warns that applying abroad often takes longer than people expect.
Where to apply in Australia
Consulate-General in Sydney (Bondi Junction, NSW), which serves Australia except the Canberra district; the Embassy in Canberra issues only laissez-passer. Applications can also be lodged at VFS Global centres in Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane.
Sydney residents book online with the consulate-general; Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane applicants book with VFS Global after completing, printing and signing the online form. Extra documents can be dropped at Sydney without appointment (Mon and Fri 9:00-12:00, Tue-Thu 8:00-13:00). Passport and ID card need separate appointments in Sydney. The consulate-general visited Canberra on 22 September 2026 (booking by email, EUR 26.85 extra per document). Finished passports can be posted (registered self-addressed envelope, up to 4 per envelope, postage paid at submission, sent at your risk); ID cards cannot be mailed.
Contact details for every office are on the page of the embassy and consulates of the Netherlands.
