A limited-validity travel document for New Zealanders abroad whose passport is lost, stolen, damaged or expired and who cannot get a passport in time. Not every New Zealand embassy issues them, and in Australia an urgent passport is often quicker and cheaper.
Where to apply in Australia
Through a New Zealand embassy or high commission that issues them; the pages fetched do not say whether the Canberra, Sydney or Melbourne posts do so.
The urgent-travel page does not name an Australian post that issues ETDs; the Safe Travel page says only some offices do and to ask the nearest mission.
Contact details for every office are on the page of the embassy and consulates of New Zealand.
How to apply
Check first with the nearest mission whether it issues ETDs | complete form PAS207 and return it to that office | return the ETD after the trip and apply for a new passport
Applications are handled through Department of Internal Affairs - New Zealand Passports, https://www.passports.govt.nz.
