All foreign visitors, including Australians, must obtain an ETA online at eta.gov.lk before arrival. From the rules applying since 25 May 2026 the tourist ETA for Australians is free for 30 days with double entry; longer stays need an extension for a fee. Residence visas are sponsored from Sri Lanka and endorsed by the mission.
