Brazil: Consular birth registration in Australia

  • Appointment Required
  • Checked 25 October 2026

Children of Brazilian parents born in Australia must be registered at a Brazilian consulate to secure Brazilian nationality by birth; the registration is required before any Brazilian document, including a passport. Requirements differ for people under 12, 12-15, 16-17 and adults.

Where to apply in Australia

Consulate-General of Brazil in Sydney (6/45 Clarence Street, Sydney NSW), which runs itinerant consulates in other cities; the Embassy in Canberra and honorary consuls are also listed. Check the consulate's jurisdiction page for your state.

Contact details for every office are on the page of the embassy and consulates of Brazil.

How to apply

Book and upload documents through the e-consular system (sistema e-consular); the consulate checks them and then offers an appointment. The record must later be transcribed at a registry office in Brazil to have full effect there.
