Foreign nationals who need a visa for Bulgaria apply at a Bulgarian mission or VFS Global centre where available. The page does not say whether Australian passport holders are exempt; confirm with the mission.

Embassy of Bulgaria, 29 Pindari Crescent, O'Malley, Canberra (ACT); the only Bulgarian post in Australia, serving all states. Consular office hours 09:30-12:30. Also through VFS Global centres where available.

How to apply
Apply in person or through an agent, no earlier than 6 months and no later than 15 days before travel | appointment may be needed
Documents you need
- Passport valid 3 months beyond departure with two blank pages, issued within 10 years
- Photo
- Fingerprints
- Fee receipt
- Round-trip proof
- Health insurance of at least EUR 30,000
- Accommodation and funds proof
Fees and processing time
- Official fee: Schengen visa EUR 90 adults, free under 12
- Other charges: long-stay visa D EUR 100 or EUR 200
Processing time: Usually within 15 calendar days, up to 45 in complex cases.
