Hungarian citizens whose birth is already registered in Hungary apply for a new or renewed passport at a consular office in Australia. Fingerprints are taken in person for applicants over 12, so postal applications are not possible. Validity is 3, 5 or 10 years depending on age.
Where to apply in Australia
Embassy of Hungary in Canberra (ACT), Consular Office of Hungary in Sydney (NSW, all of New South Wales, Level 11, 309 Kent Street) and Consular Office of Hungary in Melbourne (Fitzroy North, VIC; covers Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania). Honorary consuls and periodic outreach consular days (Brisbane, Perth) handle a limited set of services.
Honorary consuls cannot take passport applications from holders over 12 years; forms for children under 12 can be lodged at honorary consuls. Outreach consular days are held in Brisbane and Perth (dates announced on the Canberra embassy site, e.g. Perth 30 Oct-2 Nov 2026, Brisbane 16-21 Nov 2026).
Contact details for every office are on the page of the embassy and consulates of Hungary.
