Canadian passport (adult, child, renewal, replacement) – Canada in Australia

Canadian citizens in Australia apply for a regular passport (10-year or 5-year adult, 5-year child) or replace a lost or stolen one by sending the application to the Canadian office covering their state. Walk-in review is not offered; hand-delivered files are only reviewed later.

Where to apply in Australia

Consulate General of Canada, Level 6, 111 Harrington Street, Sydney (NSW, QLD, NT); High Commission of Canada, Canberra (ACT, VIC, TAS, SA, WA, plus Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, New Caledonia and other Pacific jurisdictions).

Sydney: mail or hand-delivery at the building security desk, in-person service only for emergencies; urgent travel within 5 business days requires emailing the consulate first. Canberra page says to apply in person or by mail and quotes 6-8 weeks.

Processing time: Sydney: standard 20 business days after the file is assessed, allow up to 8 weeks from submission. Canberra page: about 6-8 weeks for non-urgent travel..

Sydney page last updated 2025-11-27 (more than 12 months before today is not yet reached but Canberra page shows no date and lists older fees that conflict with Sydney's). canada.ca passports-abroad page dated 2026-03-31 gives no fees or processing times. Fees differ between the two pages; use the Sydney/canada.ca figures and check before paying.
