Family visa is for foreign spouses and children of Iranian women when the marriage and children are recorded on the mother's birth certificate. Family visit visa is for foreigners visiting Iranian relatives, with an initial assessment in Iran. Both allow up to 90 days.

Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mawson (Canberra, ACT), by post to the Visa Department; no visit needed unless asked. Consular reception Tue-Thu 09:00-13:30 by appointment.

Documents you need
- Passport scan and photo
- Family visa: mother's birth certificate first page, marriage page and children's page
- Family visit: proof of relationship and host's Iranian national ID details
- VEVO for non-Australian passport holders
Fees and processing time
- Official fee: Australian passport holders family visit AUD 329 single / 433 double; family visa AUD 122 single / 157 double (includes AUD 17 insurance)
Processing time: About 2 business days after documents arrive, longer if more checks are needed.
