Foreign nationals living in Australia can request an Iranian tourist visa (stay up to 90 days) through the national e-visa portal, selecting the Canberra embassy as place of issue, then post the documents and payment. Non-Australian passport holders need a long-term Australian visa.

Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mawson (Canberra, ACT), by post to the Visa Department; no visit needed unless asked. Consular reception Tue-Thu 09:00-13:30 by appointment.

Apply on evisatraveller.mfa.ir choosing Canberra as place of issue | receive a submission notice by email | buy bundled travel insurance (included in fee) | pay by Australian post office money order with passport number written on it | post documents and money order to PO Box 705, Mawson ACT 2607 | e-visa is emailed; carry a printout

Documents you need
- Passport scan and photo uploaded
- VEVO evidence for non-Australian passport holders (Australian visa of at least one year to choose Canberra)
- Visa Reference Number from an authorised travel agency for US, UK and Canadian passport holders and non-residents
- Iranian citizens with other citizenships apply with their Iranian passport
Fees and processing time
- Official fee: tourist visa AUD 277 single / 363 double for Australian passport holders (includes AUD 17 insurance); other nationalities have different rates
- Other charges: non-refundable; same fee for children
Processing time: About 2 business days after documents arrive; submit at least 10 days before travel.
Good to know
Visa process page shows no date. A notice dated 23 Oct 2023 says normal tourist visas take at least 20 working days with 45-day stays and normal 90-day requests are not reviewed; this contradicts the current process page, hence approximate. Pilgrimage visas are issued only through authorised caravans, so not listed separately.
