Slovakia: Death abroad and repatriation of remains in Australia

  • Checked 24 October 2026

Check with the office. The official pages for this service leave out some details, or are older than a year. Use this page as a starting point and confirm fees and documents before you apply.

When a Slovak citizen dies in Australia the Consulate-General records the notification and helps relatives or the funeral organiser with transport of remains or ashes to Slovakia. Costs of transport, cremation or burial are paid by the funeral organiser.

Where to apply in Australia

Consulate-General of the Slovak Republic, Level 15, 179 Elizabeth Street, Sydney NSW; the Sydney post serves Australia-wide (the Embassy in Canberra has no separate consular counter listed on the pages used). Appointments for in-person matters are held only on the Consulate-General's counter days.

Contact details for every office are on the page of the embassy and consulates of Slovakia.

How to apply

Contact the Consulate-General by email or the emergency line for deaths | provide the details the consulate asks for (identity, date and place of death, cause, location of remains, who reported) | arrange transport through a funeral organiser | where there are no relatives, written consent with notarised signature is needed before burial or cremation abroad

Fees and processing time

The official pages do not publish a fee for this service. Ask the office before you apply.

Processing time: Not stated.

Good to know

Page gives guidance rather than a formal application; a fee for laissez-passer for a deceased person (EUR 15) appears on the fee page dated 30.03.2026 but the page does not link it to this service. Emergency line for deaths is listed on the page.
