  • Checked 25 October 2026

Pensioners living abroad must send the Austrian Pension Insurance Institute a yearly proof of life. The Embassy confirms it after checking the pensioner's identity in person, or visits at home if age or illness prevent travel.

Where to apply in Australia

Austrian Embassy in Canberra (Forrest, ACT) and the Austrian Consulate in Sydney; honorary consulates (Brisbane, Cairns, Adelaide, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth) certify documents but passport applications need fingerprints at the Embassy or a consulate.

Contact details for every office are on the page of the embassy and consulates of Austria.
