Foreign nationals who need a visa for a stay of up to 90 days in Italy or the Schengen area apply at the Italian consulate covering their state of residence. Australian citizens do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days.

Where to apply in Australia

Consulate General of Italy in Sydney accepts visa applications from NSW residents only; applicants elsewhere apply at the Italian post covering their state of legal residence. The Brisbane consulate (Queensland and Northern Territory) states it processes Schengen visas without intermediaries.

Other Italian posts in Australia (Embassy in Canberra, Consulate-General Melbourne, Consulates in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth) run their own pages for their own districts; those were not read in this research, so details here describe the Sydney procedure and may differ elsewhere.

Contact details for every office are on the page of the embassy and consulates of Italy.
