Italian citizens report marriages, civil partnerships, divorces, adult children's births and name changes through the consulate so that they are transcribed by their Italian municipality. The consulate only forwards and registers the documents.
Where to apply in Australia
Consulate General of Italy in Sydney (Level 19, 44 Market Street, Sydney NSW), for residents of NSW only (Queanbeyan and Cooma fall under the Embassy in Canberra).
Other Italian posts in Australia (Embassy in Canberra, Consulate-General Melbourne, Consulates in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth) run their own pages for their own districts; those were not read in this research, so details here describe the Sydney procedure and may differ elsewhere.
Contact details for every office are on the page of the embassy and consulates of Italy.
How to apply
Choose the matching sub-page (marriage, same-sex civil partnership, divorce, adult birth, name change) | post documents to a listed address or hand them in at reception; no online appointment needed
Documents you need
- Specific document lists are on sub-pages not read; generally Australian certificates (apostilled and translated) are accepted for forwarding
Fees and processing time
The official pages do not publish a fee for this service. Ask the office before you apply.
Good to know
Sub-pages for each event were not read, so exact requirements are missing. The consulate cannot issue Italian birth, marriage or death certificates; only the comune can.
