Funeral directors arrange transfer of remains or ashes to Italy and lodge the documents with the consulate, which supports the authorisation and, for remains, the mortuary passport.
Where to apply in Australia
Consulate of Italy in Perth (WA) and Consulate of Italy in Adelaide (SA); the funeral director is the usual contact. Other posts not confirmed.
Perth: documents emailed to its civil-status mailbox at least two weeks before departure; fee EUR 50 payable in AUD by exact cash or Australian debit card. Adelaide: consulate requests the Nulla Osta from the destination municipality, then a mortuary passport appointment is arranged and stamp duty applies (amount not stated).
Contact details for every office are on the page of the embassy and consulates of Italy.
