Poland: Confirmation of Polish citizenship (or its loss) in Australia

  • Appointment Required
  • Apply by post Possible
  • Checked 24 October 2026

A person who cannot document Polish citizenship, for example through a Polish parent or grandparent, can ask the consul to start the procedure confirming that they hold or lost Polish citizenship. The file is sent to the provincial governor in Poland, who decides.

Where to apply in Australia

Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Sydney (10 Trelawney Street, Woollahra NSW) covers Australia except the ACT; the Embassy in Canberra covers the ACT. Honorary consuls do not issue passports.

Contact details for every office are on the page of the embassy and consulates of Poland.

How to apply

Book an appointment on the e-Konsulat system (e-konsulat.gov.pl) | submit the application in person or by mail to the post for your place of residence | the consul forwards it to the provincial governor | an appeal goes to the Minister of the Interior within 14 days of the decision

Applications are handled through e-Konsulat (Polish MFA online booking system), https://www.e-konsulat.gov.pl/.
